    1) Software controlled speech features via ASCII strings.
       RATE, VOLUME, PITCH, TONE, NUMBER PROCESSOR and LINE
       PAUSES can be controlled from application software.
    2) Instant Silence via software control.
    3) Last Control Panel Menu Rember. When activating the
       speech control panel, the last accesed menu (LPT or COM)
       will be reentered. To get to the main menu push the return
       key as before.

       instead of as whole numbers.

INFORMATION NOT IN THE PortTalk MANUAL

AUTOMATIC PHONE NUMBER DETECTION:

Starting with version 1.04 PortTalk will automatically detect phone
numbers and speak each digit without whole numbers groups (i.e. tens,
hundreds, thousands, etc.). A phone number is detected by four digits
on the right preceeded by a dash ("-") and at least three digits.

NOTE: PortTalk senses the end of a number by a space character. Hence,
      Area codes should not be separated from the rest of the phone
      number by a space if it is to be spoken a digit at a time.

PRINT SCREEN QUICK SILENCE

When the active LPT speech channel is LPT1:  a request to Print the
Screen ("*" key in the PortTalk Menu) will cause the entire screen to
be spoken. It is sometimes desirable to stop the speech before the
entire screen is spoken. Push the [SHIFT][PrtScr] key combination
to silence the voice during a Print Screen operation. You will return
to the PortTalk menu and hear a single ping in about 1 second.



SONIX/TTS Compatibility
-----------------------
PortTalk works with SONIX:88 and Text-to-Speech:88 (TTS) to convert LPT
and COM output into speech.  SONIX:88 1.05 and TTS 1.01 are the first
versions that completely work with PortTalk.

upgrading your SONIX/TTS software.
