For help with implementing any of these items listed below, See your WordPerfect manual or call WordPerfect Corporation. 1. For external, serial speech synthesizers, the Mouse Port should be set so that it is not using the same communication port as the speech synthesizer. You may try to setup the mouse on an odd number serial port and the speech synthesizer on an even number serial port. Also, if you have a PS2 mouse port, be sure that the mouse is plugged in. If it is a lap top or Palm top computer, be sure to plug in the external mouse if there is no built in mouse or touch pad. 2. When changes made to the Mouse Port settings do not correct for serial synthesizer lockups, set the Mouse Type to none. 3. We have discovered that in the Environment settings, Back Up Options may need to be increased or disabled. 4. You can try slowing down the Environment, Cursor Speed. The default is either "normal" or the value of "50". 5. Be sure that the Key Board Layout is set to default. Other Recommended Changes To Be Made: 1. You may need to load the "ANSI.SYS" device driver in your "CONFIG.SYS" file. Below are several examples showing how this driver may appear in the "CONFIG.SYS" file depending on the version of MS-DOS used. Example for MS-DOS which comes with Windows 95: DEVICE=C:\\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ANSI.SYS SWITCHES=/C/F Note: The "/f" switch may cause problems when loading WinVision 95. If this occurs, remove the "/f" switch. Be sure to leave the "/c" switch as shown. Example for MS-DOS 6. 0 and above: DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS /R Example for MS-DOS 5.0 and below: DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS 2. On some VGA and Super VGA video cards, the MS-DOS "MODE" command may need to be loaded in the "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file before Business Vision is started. Example for MS-DOS which comes with Windows 95: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MODE CO80 Example for ALL OTHER VERSIONS OF MS-DOS: C:\DOS\MODE CO80 Keep in mind that not all computers will need these modifications. These modifications are necessary only when you are experiencing lockups in WordPerfect or when your system is displaying other erratic behavior.
