From with in your Terminal program, maximize the program screen by doing the following: A. press (alt space-bar). B. Now (Arrow) down to maximize and press (enter). Your screen is now maximize. Keep in mind that in Windows 95/98, you may half to make the changes to the Short Cut Icon that runs your application instead of doing the above steps.. 2. Cursor style. For best tracking of the Terminal and mainframe Emulation cursor with Winvision you will need to: A. In most cases make sure that the terminal emulation cursor is a block cursor. B. Also, the block cursor must be blinking at a fast rate. C. Under Windows 3.1, the following line: CursorBlinkRate=200 must be added to the "WIN.INI" file in the "C:\WINDOWS" directory. It should be placed below the line: Load= Then save the changes out. Remember that the "WIN.INI" file is an ASCII text file. After making the changes to the "WIN.INI" file, you will need to shut down and restart Windows 3.1. Recommended changes to be made to WinVision For use with Terminal Emulation Applications. 1. Turning on Win Vision Terminal mode. Win Vision has a mode to track the scrolling screen of a terminal package in Windows. End of Section. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Section III: USING ARTIC/Business VISION WITH 3278 MAINFRAME TERMINAL EMULATORS. ** CURSOR ROUTING CONSIDERATIONS. The Artic/Business Vision cursor routing techniques can become quite useful with 3270 terminals which sometimes lack many of the convenient cursor movements found in desktop computers. However, because many mainframe computers are slow in responding to keystrokes, you may need to slow down the default cursor routing speed. Do this by increasing the Route Delay from the Artic/Business Vision control/review menu mode setup. ** RUDE EMULATOR PROGRAMS AND THE ARTIC KEYBOARD WATCHDOG. Many 3270 emulators take control of the keyboard and don't allow other programs to operate. This rude type of behavior renders most screen access programs unusable. Artic/Business Vision, however, can get around this problem by using it's Keyboard watchdog. If you find your emulator does not even allow you to enter the Artic/Business Vision Review mode, then it has taken over the keyboard. REMEDY: Reboot your computer and 1. Load emulator software and make memory resident. 2. Return to DOS. 3. Load Artic/Business Vision. 4. Turn Artic/Business Vision Keyboard Watchdog on (via menu setup in control/Review). 5. Activate Emulator. With Synphonix/TransPort Business Vision version 3, Artic Technologies provides a external key pad called Gizmo as a hardware solution for this problem. For more information, telephone Artic Technologies at: (248) 588-7370 extension 11. NOTE: When using 3270 terminal emulators you may have to adjust the Artic Vision RESPONSE FACTOR using Control-Z (in review mode) with Business Vision 2 or Cursor Response and last Word Time out under ConTrol Menu, Option Menu, Timer Options with Business Vision version 3. Determine what setting works best for your system. If you set the response factor too high speech may occur before the cursor moves. With Business Vision version 3, increase the last word time out. *** AVATAR PA100G.. This newest board from Avatar has been found to work well with Artic/Business Vision by following the steps below. 1. Change the interrupt jumper on the SynPhonix speech card to IRQ 7. Note that when loading SONIX or Vest you must now indicate that interrupt 7 is being used via the command SONIX /I=7 or Vest /I=7. This is done automatically if you use the AV7.BAT or BV7.BAT file to start speech instead of AV.BAT or BV.BAT. 2. Turn your computer on and let DOS start up. DO NOT LOAD ARTIC VISION YET or Business Vision. 3. Load the Avatar terminal emulator software by typing.. PA3270 -h [enter] 4. Now load Artic/Business Vision by typing AV7 or BV7. 5. Adjust the Artic/Business Vision Response Factor to about mid setting. With Business Vision version 3, set the last word time out to around 2 seconds. Set Cursor response to around 0.31 seconds. NOTE: The -h option used in step 3 above will automatically return you to DOS. Unlike the original Avatar software you can use this feature to create a batch file for start-up Artic and Avatar. This completes the Avatar PA100G installation. You should now configure the Artic/Business Vision speech windows to read meaningful areas from your mainframe application screen. ** AVATAR PA100 TURBO.. The original Avatar PA100 Turbo board has been found to work well with Artic Vision by following the steps below. 1. Change the interrupt jumper on the SynPhonix speech card to IRQ 7. Note that when loading SONIX or Vest you must now indicate that interrupt 7 is being used via the command SONIX /I=7 or Vest /I=7. This is done automatically if you use the AV7.BAT OR BV7.BAT file to start speech instead of AV.BAT or BV7.BAT. 2. Turn your computer on and let DOS start up. DO NOT LOAD ARTIC VISION or Business Vision yet. 3. Load the Avatar terminal emulator software by typing.. PA100T [enter] 4. Return to DOS by PUSHING BOTH SHIFT KEYS AT THE SAME TIME. This makes the emulator program become memory resident. You can switch back and forth between DOS and 3278 by pushing both shift keys. 5. Now load Artic Vision by typing AV7 or Business Vision by typing BV7. 6. Adjust the Artic/Business Vision Response Factor to about mid setting. With Business Vision version 3, set the last word time out to around 2 seconds. Set Cursor response to around 0.31 seconds. This completes the Avatar PA100 installation. You should now configure the Artic/Business Vision speech windows to read meaningful areas from your mainframe application screen. ** AST. Reports indicate that this emulator works fine. ** IDEACOM. Early versions of the emulator program work fine. Recent revisions have made this program difficult to use. Turning on the Artic Keyboard Watchdog or going with the Artic Gizmo pad and Synphonix/TransPort Business Vision version 3 may make recent releases useable. ** IRMA & E78 The original IRMA card using E78 will work when the Artic Keyboard Watchdog is on. ** IRMA 2 and CROSSTALK MARK IV. The popular CrossTalk program has a special release called Mark IV. This version supports IRMA emulator cards in addition to Hayes compatible modems. This allows you to learn one program for all of your communication needs. To use CrossTalk and Artic/Business Vision together you must turn the CrossTalk Printer Echo on and then turn the Artic/Business Vision Printer Voice on. (See the example in the Artic/Business Vision manual). ** IRMA 2 and E78 PLUS. For some unknown reason the E78 PLUS program uses undocumented and non-standard key codes internal to itself. This renders E78 PLUS unusable with speech programs that use the IBM PC industry standard key assignments. Use Crosstalk Mark IV as described above or the Artic Gizmo pad and Synphonix/TransPort Business Vision version 3. ** FORTE PJ. Reports say the Forte PJ using it's original emulator software works fine. However, the E78 PLUS program cannot be used for similar reasons described with IRMA 2 above unless you use the Artic Gizmo pad and Synphonix/TransPort Business Vision version 3 with it. Keep in mind that Synphonix and TransPort Business Vision 3 with the external Artic Gizmo pad or the built in Gizmo pad as apart of TransBook Business Vision has been found to help solve these keyboard problems. End of Section. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Section IV: Setting up AttachMate's Extra 3270 emulation for MS-DOS With Business Vision 3.xx systems. Procedures for Installing and Running AttachMate Extra for DOS With Business Vision Version 3.xx By David P. Rosenfeld M.A. Note: This article was originally prepared in the spring of 1992. For a number of years, blind people have been using 3270 terminal emulation packages such as Irma and Avatar to communicate with IBM mainframe systems, but not all connectivity packages worked well with speech, and even within a product, not all versions worked equally well. There has been an unfortunate tendency for emulation packages to behave increasingly badly as there complexity increased, and this has forced blind mainframe users to choose from a dwindling number of quite obscure products. It is with considerable excitement, therefore, that some of us have discovered that AttachMate Extra, one of the most powerful and popular of the new breed of multi-purpose connectivity packages can be made to work well with speech, and in particular, with version 3 of Artic Business Vision. The major hurdle is to make the two applications share control of the keyboard, a potentially daunting task given the tendency of many emulation packages to insist on grabbing all resources for there own use, but if you follow these simple steps, you should have no difficulty. Begin by setting up a minimal artic configuration. Artic's key watchdog should be set off, but word route and 3270 DOS toggle can be on. Scroll-lock should be set to application, since Extra requires the use of this key. When operating correctly, ctrl-alt space will work properly as an Extra command to toggle sessions, but ctrl-alt-k (the Extra command to kill the session from memory) will require double click to pass the command to the application. Assuming that extra has been installed so that it can work without speech (i.e. files have ben copied into an appropriate directory, printer drivers unzipped if needed, and Extra's directory included in the path statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file), the first step is to run an AttachMate utility called "FIND_INT" that will indicate which interrupts are currently not being used. The utility should be run while Artic is loaded, but without Extra being loaded. Choose one of the interrupts listed, (66 is usually available), and include it in an environment variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as follows: "set acpint=nn", where "nn" is the number of the chosen interrupt. It should probably be placed after the path statement but before any other AttachMate-related commands. This causes Extra to relinquish control of keyboard interrupt 21, so that there will not be a conflict with other currently running software requiring its use. The next line of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file should run the tsr executable file "INT16TRP", since the trapping of bios keyboard interrupt 16 will be crucial to the ability of Artic and Extra to share control of the keyboard. This utility enables Artic to monitor interrupt 16 without needing to take control. Next, Artic should be loaded. The AttachMate batch file normally used to load the software can be invoked after Artic is loaded. Make certain that DOS concurrency is set on in AttachMate, or Artic (and other TSR's) will be locked out. The "CONFIG.SYS" file does not need to be modified to run with Artic, although AttachMate itself may require the use of certain drivers depending on type of interface card, etc. Also, if you have a recent version of DOS or a memory management package, it is desirable to push as much of DOS and Artic out of conventional memory as possible. Extra also has expanded memory support that may be helpful. I have not experimented with AttachMate's snow removal, but changing its setting may improve the speed of cursor tracking. The following is a sample AUTOEXEC.BAT file. @ECHO OFF PATH C:\;C:\DOS;C:\EXTRA; SET ACPINT=66 INT16TRP \ARTIC\VISION\VEST /E \ARTIC\VISION\BVISION /M3 Comments from Artic Technologies Help Center: If your Extra software does not have "INT16TRP" contact AttachMate to obtain this driver. Also, keep in mind that MS-DOS 6 and above has a utility called "MEMMAKER". The MEMMAKER program is there to simplify the process of loading programs high which are used in the "CONFIG.SYS" and "AUTOEXEC.BAT" files. We are appreciative of David P. Rosenfeld sharing his notes on making AttachMate's Extra 3270 emulation for MS-DOS work with Artic Technologies Business Vision software.
