SUBJECT: Windows 95, WinVision 95 and Networks. Since the introduction of our WinVision 95 screen access software for Windows 95, we have frequently been asked for a means by which speech access can be available before a network log-in dialog box appears. In response, we present the following procedure which was developed with the invaluable assistance of Environment Canada's adaptive engineers. Procedure for running WinVision 95 BEFORE the network log-in dialog box appears in Windows 95. 1. If you have already installed WinVision 95 in the Windows 95 "StartUp group", then WinVision 95 will need to be removed from "StartUp". This is accomplished via the following steps: A. Activate the Windows 95 "Start" menu by holding down the key and pressing the key. B. Press the key for the "Settings" group. C. Press the key to bring up the "Taskbar Properties" dialog box. D. Hold down the key and press the key once to go to the "Taskbar Options" folder tab. E. Press the key once to move to the "Start Run Programs" folder tab. F. Press the key twice to go to the "Remove" command and then press to execute it. This brings up the "Remove Shortcuts/Folders" list. G. Use the key to locate the "StartUp" entry in the "Remove Shortcuts/Folders" list. H. Press the key once to open the "StartUp" folder. I. Use the key to locate the "WinVision 95" entry in the StartUp folder. Once it is found, press the key to remove WinVision 95 from StartUp. J. Press the key followed by the key. This will return you to the Windows 95 "DeskTop". 2. For WinVision 95 to start before the network log-in dialog box appears, WinVision 95 must be run from the "System Registry". To do this, you will first need to access the "REGEDIT.EXE" program. NOTE: If your computer is on a network it is possible that you will not have access to the Registry. If this is the case, please contact your system administrator before continuing. The REGEDIT.EXE program is accessed as follows: A. Activate the Windows 95 "Start" menu by holding down the key and pressing the key. B. Press the key to bring up the "Run" Dialog Box. C. At this point type: REGEDIT.EXE and then press the key. You will now be in the Registry Editor. 3. Once you are in the Registry Editor, use the key to locate the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" entry. 4. Press the key to open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, then use the key to locate the "SOFTWARE" entry. 5. Press the key to open the SOFTWARE folder, then use the key to locate the "MICROSOFT" entry. 6. Press the key to open the MICROSOFT folder, then use the key to locate the "WINDOWS" entry. 7. Press the key to open the WINDOWS folder, then use the key to locate the "CURRENT VERSION" entry. 8. Press the key to open the CURRENT VERSION folder, then use the key to see if an entry named "RunServices" exists. If the "RunServices" entry exists, skip to Step 9. If the "RunServices" entry does not exist, create it via the following steps: A. Use the key to return to the "CURRENT VERSION" entry and then press the key once to close the CURRENT VERSION folder. B. Hold down the key and press the letter . This will bring up the Edit menu and place you at the "NEW" menu option. C. Press the key once to open the NEW sub-menu. You will be placed on the "KEY" entry. Press and a new Registry folder will be created named "New-Key-#1". D. Change the name of this folder by simply typing: RunServices and pressing the key. NOTE: Make sure that the "R" in "Run" and the first "S" in "Services" are capitalized. ALSO: Once you press after creating "RunServices" the REGEDIT program automatically places you on this new entry. 9. Once you are on "RunServices" press the key to go to the next area of REGEDIT to define "Default". If "RunServices" was just created, you may have to press the key once after pressing the key to highlight the "Default" option. 10. Hold down the key and press the letter . This will bring up the Edit menu and place you on the first menu option, "MODIFY". 11. Press the key while on "MODIFY" and type the following: C:\WINDOWS\WINVIS95.EXE and then press the key. 13. Close REGEDIT by holding down the key and then pressing the key. Your changes will be automatically saved without any prompting. 14. Shut- down and re-start your computer as follows: A. Hold down the key and press the key to bring up the "Start" menu. B. Type the letter . This invokes the Windows 95 Shut Down Menu. C. Type the letter and then press .
