SUBJECT: Windows 95 registry and WinVision 95/97. Since the introduction of our WinVision 95/97 screen access software for Windows 95, we have frequently been asked for instructions on how to manually add WinVision 95/97 to Windows 95 registry. This is so that speech access can be available before a network log-in dialogue box appears. In response, we are presenting this enhanced reference file that covers how to manually install, how to manually make changes and how to manually remove WinVision 95/97 from the Windows 95 Registry. Also, we are including steps on how to manually establish a hot key for running WinVision from its Icon in the Artic Group Folder and how to manually establish an Icon for running WinVision from the Windows "Start UP" program folder. This file replaces the need for reading through the "W V 9 5 - 0 1 . R E F" and the "W V 9 7 - 0 1 . R E F" files. The reason for this is that the contents of both files are apart of this "W V W 9 5 R E G . R E F" file. For your information, the original reference procedure was developed with the invaluable assistance of Environment Canada's adaptive engineers. We here at Artic Technologies give our on going thanks for the assistance that Environment Canada's adaptive engineers provided to us here at Artic Technologies in writing the original reference file knowN as "W V 9 5 - 0 1 . R E F". End of Introduction. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Section I: How to manually install for running WinVision 95/97 from the Windows 95 registry. When MicroSoft Active Accessibility version 1.0 is called from WinVision 97 running out of the "RunServices" of the WinDows 95 registry, it has been discovered that Windows 95 Explorer becomes unstable. This is easily noticed when doing Cut, Copy and Pasting of files in Windows 95. The below steps should help you with adding the "/K" switch and/or any other command line switch to the WinVision 97 command line. This is when running WinVision 97 from the Windows 95 registry. Once these below changes have been made and you have restarted the computer, manually shutting down and re-starting WinVision 97 will solve this Windows 95 MicroSoft Active Accessibility/Explorer problem. 1. For WinVision/97 to start before the network log-in dialogue box appears, WinVision 97 should have already been installed to run from the "System Registry". To do this, see your WinVision 97 manual, the "README.TXT" file on the WinVision 97 diskette or see the previous section above.. To make the changes so that WinVisionn 97 runs with MicroSoft Active Accessibility disabled, you will need to first run the Windows 95 "REGEDIT.EXE" program. NOTE: If your computer is on a network it is possible that you will not have access to the Registry. If this is the case, please contact your system administrator before continuing. The REGEDIT.EXE program is accessed as follows: A. Activate the Windows 95 "Start" menu by holding down the (Control) key and pressing the (Escape) key. B. Press the "R" key to bring up the "Run" Dialogue Box. C. At this point type: REGEDIT.EXE and then press the (Enter) key. You will now be in the Registry Editor. 2. Once the "REGEDIT.EXE" program is up and running, go in to WinVision 97 Control Menu, Speech Options, and turn on "HIGH LIGHT" tracking. Then save these changes out locally. 3. Once you are in the Registry Editor, use the (Down Arrow) key to locate the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" entry. 4. Press the (Right Arrow) key to open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, then use the (Down Arrow) key to locate the "SOFTWARE" entry. 5. Press the (Right Arrow) key to open the SOFTWARE folder, then use the (Down Arrow) key to locate the "MICROSOFT" entry. 6. Press the (Right Arrow) key to open the MICROSOFT folder, then use the (Down Arrow) key to locate the "WINDOWS" entry. 7. Press the (Right Arrow) key to open the WINDOWS folder, then use the (Down Arrow) key to locate the "CURRENT VERSION" entry. 8. Press the (Right Arrow) key to open the CURRENT VERSION folder, then use the (Down Arrow) key to find the entry named "RunServices". 9.
