Addendum To accommodate faster computers, Artic has provided a program to change the internal timer of the driving software that comes with your speech synthesizer. A. SETSONIX.COM To change the internal timer of SONIXTTS.COM use the program SETSONIX.COM found on your program disk or provided on a special disk you may have been sent. SETSONIX is compatible with SONIXTTS versions dated 1993 or later. Backup SONIXTTS.COM before starting. SETSONIX.COM must reside in, and be run from, the same directory where your SONIXTTS.COM is located. First, switch to the appropriate directory. For example: CD C:\SONIX and copy SETSONIX.COM there. To run SETSONIX, simply enter the command from the DOS prompt, followed by the timer value (a number from 1 to 255). For example: SETSONIX 10 Now restart your computer for the new timer value to take effect. When you run SONIXTTS again, your timing should be okay. If it is not, run SETSONIX again using another timer value (see chart on next page). Remember to restart your computer each time that you run SETSONIX. B. SETVEST.COM To change the internal timer of VEST.COM use the program SETVEST.COM found on your program disk or provided on a special disk you may have been sent. SETVEST is compatible only with version 1.6 of VEST. Backup of your VEST.COM before you run SETVEST. VEST.COM must be in the \ARTIC\VISION directory since SETVEST.COM will try to access it there. You should also copy SETVEST.COM to this directory. To run SETVEST, type the program name from the DOS prompt, followed by the timer value (a number from 1 to 255). For example: SETVEST 10 After running SETVEST, you must restart your computer for the new timer value to take effect. Run VEST.COM followed by Business Vision (BVISION.COM) and your timing should be okay. If it is not, run SETVEST again using another timer value (see chart that follows). Don’t forget to restart the computer each time you run SETVEST. C. TIMER TABLE The following lists the recommended value for the timer setting in SETSONIX or SETVEST based on the type of microprocessor and its speed. PROCESSOR: 80-486 SPEED: 33 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 10 PROCESSOR: 80-486 SPEED: 66 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 10 PROCESSOR: 80-486 SPEED: 100 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 50 PROCESSOR: 80-586 Pentium SPEED: 70 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 50 PROCESSOR: 80-586 Pentium SPEED: 90 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 70 PROCESSOR: 80-586 Pentium SPEED: 100 MHz RECOMMENDED VALUE: 90 NOTE: The table above lists recommended timer values. You may need to increase or decrease the recommended value for optimum clarity and performance. SynPhonix 210 or 215 speech cards purchased before 1991 may need a modification. This is especially true if you are installing the SynPhonix speech cards into computers that have 80-486, 80-586 (Pentium) or later processors.
